Limited Edition: the Classico Schooner America
Ulysse Nardin has crafted a limited-edition timepiece in honor of the most prestigious yachting competition and oldest international sporting event: the America’s Cup. Celebrating its 35th competition, Ulysse Nardin’s brand-new timepieces shows support for the Artemis Racing team who will hit the water and compete in the upcoming tournament in 2017.
The Classico Schooner America is mesmerizing due to the exquisite backdrop on the face, which depicts the massive sailboats racing in the Isle of Wight. The timepiece was handcrafted by skilled artisans at Donze Cadrans using the enamel cloisonné process; and only a handful of people are able to complete this process correctly.
“In this method, opaque or translucent colors are derived by mixing proportions of elements to achieve specific combinations, often kept secret,” according to the company. “Each section is divided by fine gold wire, and it takes more than 500mm of wire to make the cloisons. Moreover, every cloisonné dial requires 50 hours of artisan expertise and 26 processes to complete.”
But that’s not the only aspect that makes the Classico Schooner America unique. Due to the meticulous process, only 30 timepieces were crafted, making this piece an instant necessity to collectors around the globe.
The timepiece’s 40mm enamel cloisonné dial can either be purchased in 18-carat white or rose gold, depending on the wearer’s personal preference, as well as with a blue leather strap that mirrors the blue waters of the ocean. The Classico Schooner America also utilizes the UN-815 movement and is certified by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres.
If you’re a yachting pro and just happen to be a collector of luxury timepieces as well, then this is without-a-doubt an addition you need to make to your collection.
