New Taste Of The Upper West Side
On Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1, dozens of New York City’s critically acclaimed Upper West Side chefs and restaurateurs will gather beneath a grand white tent on Columbus Avenue to showcase their fares and honor their colleagues at the Sixth Annual Whole Foods Market New Taste of the Upper West Side.
This celebration of culinary delights, created by the Columbus Avenue Business Improvement District (BID), highlights some of the most celebrated Upper West Side chefs and restaurants. All proceeds benefit Columbus Avenue BID’s Streetscape project, a project promoting sustainability and beautification of NYC streets. In particular, this year’s proceeds will go to the sustainable revitalization project in front of the O’Shea School complex that will feature Manhattan’s first bioswill and a solar powered trash receptacle sponsored by Shake Shack.
On Friday, May 31, the Comfort Classics event will be held from 7:00pm to 10:00pm at Columbus Avenue between W76th and W77th Streets. Hosted for the third consecutive year by Travel Channel personality and author of America the Edible: A Hungry History from Sea to Dining Sea, Adam Richman, the evening will feature over 40 Upper West Side chefs’ take on classic comfort foods. Participating culinary masterminds include Aaron Hermon from Gastrique 491, Bobbie Lloyd from the Magnolia Bakery and Christina Tosi from Momofuku Milk Bar.
The final event on Saturday, June 1 commences at 7:00pm at the same venue and is hosted by effervescent culinary personality, Gail Simmons, who serves as the Special Projects Director for Food and Wine magazine, judge on Bravo’s Top Chef, host of Top Chef spinoff, Top Chef: Just Desserts and author of her memoir, Talking With My Mouth Full: My Life as a Professional Eater. The event will feature delectable creations from 40 of the Upper West Sides most celebrated chefs and restaurateurs, including Jean-George Vongericten, Jacque Torres and Marc Murphy. The event will also feature a tribute honoring the creators of the “anti-chain” Shake Shack restaurants, Danny Meyers, CEO of Union Square Hospitality Group, and Shake Shack CEO Randy Garutti.
