The SJP Collection
There are style icons and then there’s Sara Jessica Parker, a walking fashion testament of her Manholo Blahnik obsessed character, Carrie Bradshaw, on Sex and the City. Last week, the actress launched a line of her very own shoes alongside partner Manolo Blahnik CEO, George Malkemus, for Nordstrom. The SJP collection has launched a cross-country tour, stopping at Nordstrom department stores to greet fans, sign shoes and promote her line. The first three days of the pop-up event started on February 28 and were located in (of course), New York City.
The doors opened at 11 AM at the corner of Spring and Broome Street in Soho, and the first twenty or so people were allowed in to look, feel and try on the SJP shoe collection. There were simple, single-soled shoes and everyday pumps, flats or sandals that retailed in the $300 range. The Italian-crafted shoes had a variety of bright colors, which was a primary concept behind the collection. One customer, Sharon Nord, told me she purchased the very last SJP’s ‘Lady’ Pump: Her vibrant red suedes were the last pair in the NYC pop up store.
What’s the saying, if the shoe fits?
The Nordstrom staff was exceptional in their customer service, providing hot chocolate to those waiting outside. Meanwhile, inside saw a constant bustle of the staff moving shoes, offering to have them stretched and fitted perfectly so that there was no need to break a pair in. While most customers in the store went bright, I wanted to go neutral, and much to my delight, the nude fawns were a comfortable fit.
As Sara Jessica Parker signed the soles of my incredibly beautiful nude pumps, we talked briefly over what she loved most about her collection, which was the personal response that came from her fans proving that they couldn’t wait to wear the ‘Bobbie’ Sandal to their party that evening or being told the SJP ‘Diana’ Pumps were the perfect black heels to go to work in.
