    America’s Cup World Series Town Selected

    Screen Shot 2015-03-24 at 10.11.12 AMWith every passing month, yachting aficionados are preparing themselves for the the next America’s Cup, which will be held on the island of Bermuda in June of 2017. The popular yachting race has taken place for decades now, and the prominent America’s Cup is the ultimate prize. In February, the America’s Cup advisory board selected Cagliari, Sardinia to host the America’s Cup World Series, the first portion of this premier yachting event.

    Winning teams of the America’s Cup World Series will move onto the next rounds until the top two teams are selected. These two teams will race for the trophy in the final event. One of the yachting teams to race will be the team that currently holds the America’s Cup trophy versus the second team, who’s trying to take the number one spot from the current cup holders.

Cagliari is one of Italy’s most prominent ports, which means the area has adequate waterways for sailing. Bermuda, which will host the final race of the America’s Cup, is comprised of 181 islands and considering it is comprised of 181 islands and various water activities, like sailing, are extremely popular there.

    Harvey Schiller, the Commercial Commissioner for the America’s Cup stated, “In Bermuda we have a perfect international venue to demonstrate the excitement America’s Cup boats and teams can generate. The sailing conditions are near perfect.”

    Screen Shot 2015-03-24 at 10.10.43 AMBermuda’s Great Sound will also act like an amphitheater providing room for the racers and spectators and the America’s Cup Village at the Royal Naval Dockyard will be the center of the America’s Cup for the teams and spectators.

    The defending champion, Oracle Team USA, will be returning as well as challengers Emirates Team New Zealand, Ben Ainslie Racing (GBR), Team France, Luna Rossa Challenge (ITA) and Artemis Racing (SWE).

    Every team will also be competing in their new AC62 catamarans which are equipped with highly efficient wingsails and can glide at speeds close to 50 mph. The challengers must first compete in the America’s Cup World Series that will be held in Cagliari from June 4 to 7, 2015.
