If you had ventured to find Atlantis The Palm, Dubai in an atlas a dozen years ago, like its fabled namesake, the only thing you would’ve seen is the deep blue sea. Now, thanks to man’s ingenuity and almost unlimited financial resources, there exists a man-made island oasis in the shape of a palm tree, upon which sits a majestic fun-filled sanctuary, distinct in its pink coral color and the sky bridge that connects both its towers. Behold: The Atlantis at The Palm Resort Dubai offers an abundance of exciting nautical activities and heavenly comforts nearly too numerous to mention.

Central to the resort, both in location and in theme, is the lost Chambers Aquarium, home to more than 65,000 marine creatures. If you prefer to get a little more up close and personal with the underwater
inhabitants, Dolphin Bay offers a more interactive experience. Still not quite satisfied? Try the 42 acres of wet and wild fun served up by the Aquaventure water park.

All accommodations on the property are best-in-class and designed with both maritime and Arabic influence. If you’re considering a romantic getaway or looking to woo your partner with a lavishness and indulgence never to be forgotten, splurge a bit and reserve an underwater suite. The Poseidon and the Neptune suites both provide a sophisticated and stylish environment, with three floors of open living space and the most dramatic view you could ever imagine from a master-suite window. As you draw back the curtains, you’ll be greeted with a floor-to-ceiling glass gateway into the sunken city of Atlantis. It’s simply spectacular.

When the muscles ache from the wild water, it’s time to visit the Resort Spa, which offers the best therapeutic services in all of Dubai. And for you guys, I highly recommend The Royal Shave at the Gentleman’s Tonic Barber Shop.

There are many off-site excursions offered through the concierge service. My favorite was the four-wheeler desert trek and camping tour. An adrenaline-charged drive through the desert dunes on ATVs, followed by a camp barbecue complete with belly dancers as entertainment. Bliss.

In a city where luxury and opulence are judged at a level above anywhere else on the planet, it may be a little presumptuous to claim that the Atlantis Resort offers the ideal choice for a family-friendly getaway. Bottom line: No one can dispute the unique, mind-blowing nature of this resort experience. After all, you’re actually vacationing on an island that wasn’t even part of the world a mere decade ago. Talk about mind blowing.
