Over the past couple of years, the fashion powerhouse Dolce & Gabbana has been highlighting their Italian heritage throughout their fashion campaigns. Vibrant, bold colors and prints captivate their handbags, clothing, shoes…and now, through a coveted sunglasses collection: the Carretto.
The Carretto collection is an extremely rare line of sunglasses launched by Dolce & Gabbana. What makes these accessories so unique? The fashion brand has only created 100 pairs of the Carretto sunglasses and they are handmade and hand painted by Sicilian artisans, so no two pairs are the same.
The collection is inspired by the Sicilian cart, which has been a cultural staple for the Sicilian people since its inception. According to the Dolce & Gabbana website, “sculpture and painting were applied to its various constituent parts to represent moments from the island’s history, or from epic stores or popular religion, creating valuable constructions that were genuine traveling works of art.”
Fashioned with Canaletto walnut, the limited edition line follows an effervescent motif that pays homage to traditional Sicilian colors. Hues used on the Carretto sunglasses include white, yellow, red, blue, green and orange. The glasses’ lenses are tinted gray to compliment the bold decorations painted on the rims, and come packaged in a Carretto-printed fabric as well.
