The Maldives are beginning a transformation that will turn them into one of the most sought after spots for sports travel. Golf aficionados: Take note.
Troon Golf, Dutch Docklands and Waterstudio.NL have announced their plans to build a floating golf course on the islands located on the Indian Ocean. The 18-hole golf course will cost about $500 million and is set for completion by 2015. This will make the course the most expensive to date beating out the $250 million Liberty National Golf Course in Jersey City, NJ.
The one-of-its-kind golf course will be built on a set of floating platforms with underwater tunnels that allow players to easily travel to each hole. Perhaps more importantly, these underwater tunnels also will lead to a clubhouse and bar.
In addition to being one of the most unique golf courses in the world, it will also be one of the most energy efficient. Powered by solar energy, your game on the green is intended to leave zero foot print on the planet.
The completed course will be located near Maldives’ most beautiful resorts and only a few miles from the airport providing golfers from all over the world a truly unforgettable experience.
