Right in the beating heart of Manhattan on 44th street between 5th and 6th Avenues, the luxurious Sofitel offers guest the elegant touch of the French magnifique in NYC. From the chic design of the lobby, which probably has the most wonderful aroma of any hotel lobby in Manhattan, to the exquisite Gaby restaurant and bar, the Sofitel is a great place for a weekend in-town staycation or headquarters for visitor to enjoy the Suite Life while passing through for business or pleasure. Close to the buzzing theatre district, the Suites at the Sofitel provide a wonderful and chic oasis. During my stay, the attention to detail and attentiveness of the staff definitely elevated the experience. From the initial welcome to passing, “bonjours” throughout the day, the Sofitel’s staff was wonderfully on point, exuding that elegant French savoir faire that has become a Sofitel hallmark.

The level of comfort amenities in the suite ensured my stay included just enough indulgence. With floor to ceiling window views to the Chrysler Building, the one-bedroom suite offered ample room to get a little work done before hitting the town. Some of the amenities include a Bose sound system bedside and in the living room, and Hermes bath products. While it was certainly tempting to just lounge in the room and enjoy the exquisite atmosphere and views, I had a reservation at Gaby’s to keep.

There’s a heady difference between a French restaurant and almost any other. The French are masters at not only making the meal special and memorable, but also the experience of having that meal be equally meaningful.  At Gaby, the service was impeccable, and included a visit from the chef, and I felt as if I was their sole patron. I wanted to order one of everything from the French brasserie inspired menu, but narrowed it down the Foie Gras Spring Roll and the Avocado and Maine Lobster Salad to start, both of which I could have happily spent my night eating through several encores, and a perfectly executed Tuna Nicoise for my main. Each part of the meal came with a waiter recommended wine, which suited the food perfectly. The meal ended with an inspiring Tarte Tatin a la Poire.

After a little night on the town, getting back to the room and settling into the heavenly SoBed was the perfect punctuation to the day.

I wished I could extend my stay when it came time to check out, which is the ultimate statement of any hotel. The Sofitel NYC Suite experience will nicely exceed your expectations. The Prestige Suites offer private balconies, the Executive suites, which I experienced, was roomy and gracious, and for the best of the French New York experience, the Presidential Suite will feel like a home away from home.
