On March 22, The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey’s Annual Gala, La Nuit des Rêves — or The Night of Dreams, gave guests the unique opportunity to step “behind the scenes” into the “theatre factory,” the Florham Park facility that houses the Theatre’s artistic, production and administrative operations. A sparkling cabaret show thrilled guests with a star-studded lineup that included New York cabaret legend Baby Jane Dexter, Broadway stars Robert Cuccioli (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark), Laila Robins (The Apple Plays) and Jeff McCarthy (How the Grinch Stole Christmas).
Attending guests included former New Jersey governors Thomas Kean and Jim McGreevey and local philanthropist Heath B. McLendon, a Drew University trustee and Shakespeare Theatre trustee emeritus. McLendon received the Theatre’s coveted Mighty Quill Award for his dedicated service to the Theatre and University. All proceeds from the evening benefited the Theatre’s education programs.
Guests also enjoyed a psychic reading from a fortuneteller who deciphered their future through the use of tarot cards and who interpreted dreams from her mystical lounge. The masked, mischievous Punchinello character was also present, and guests who presented him with a vintage Mardi Gras doubloon were entered to win gifts such as jewelry and theatre experiences.
